Abstract

Without the ambition to provide a comprehensive view of this historical-sociological process, an attempt is made here to trace some lines in the political-cultural matrix from the beginning of Hobsbawm's "short 20th century" to its end. After real stability from the end of the 19th century to two world wars in a short historical clip. In the attempt of a literary-sociological essay, the assumption is made that decadence is an expression of skepticism in the face of the concrete possibility of doomsday. And based on the experience of the First World War. Under the auspices of the devastating wars of the twentieth century, a gas utopia is burning. Hope is placed in anti-utopian practice - violence and control, as the backbone of the existence of communities and societies.
